July 2, 2021 – The Department of Education (DepEd) conducted a nationwide pre-employment training last June 1 titled ‘Building an Impactful Resume and Professional Brand’ for teachers and Grade 12 learners to help graduating learners transition to a work environment.
“This webinar is one of our responses to the need for futures thinking in education, for readiness to confront the rapid changes, the challenges, and opportunities of the future. We want to ensure that our learners will be globally competitive if they choose to work after their graduation in basic education,” said Education Chief Leonor Magtolis Briones.
The training was conducted virtually by the agency’s Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (OUA) and in partnership with Microsoft Philippines and the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP).
“We are happy and excited to have gotten support from our partners for this program. This gives graduating Senior High School students more opportunities to find possible employment, or if not, gave significant real-world experience in job hunting,” Undersecretary for Administration Alain Del B. Pascua shared.
The webinar garnered a total of 143,950 registrants nationwide, with 13,759 participants from Region 7, 13,754 from Region 6, and 13,494 from Region 3.
During the webinar, Mr. Ferdinand Ferrer, Chairperson of ECOP’s Job Creation Committee, shared insights and trends in skill demands in the workforce and the essence of upskilling for workers in their workforce chosen track.
The webinar also discussed creating impactful resumes and LinkedIn profiles, utilizing Office tools, and pursuing career-ready credentials and certificates.
Usec. Pascua revealed that the project is the commencement of more programs that his strand will develop to help graduating learners shape their professional skills to be globally competitive in the workplace.
“This activity is the only beginning of a larger, more in-depth process in support of the K-to-12 program and its graduates. For all this to succeed, we need to have a paradigm shift paired with an open and optimistic mind so that we can reshape the future of our Filipino youth,” said Pascua.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Diosdado San Antonio shared the essence of being hardworking learners to achieve triumphs in their chosen path.
“Remember that success is for those who are willing to take the extra step. Success is for those who are willing to put an extra effort so that better outputs, better kind of competencies could be acquired by us,” explained Undersecretary San Antonio.
The initiative is part of the Public Schools of the Future (PSOF) Framework of the Administration Strand led by Undersecretary Pascua and Assistant Secretary Salvador Malana III, through the Bureau of Learner Support Service – Youth Formation Division, Information and Communications Technology Service, EdTech Unit and DepEd Online. It is under the leadership of Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones.
