PASIG CITY, 06 December 2023 – Along with the public schools and field offices nationwide, the Department of Education (DepEd) led the simultaneous conduct of DepEd’s 236,000 Trees – A Christmas Gift for the Children.
Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Atty. Michael Wesley T. Poa, National Capital Region Director Jocelyn Andaya, and Pasig Representative Roman Romulo led the main program conducted in Pasig Central Elementary School.
DepEd officials, teachers and learners likewise joined the program in their respective areas. The said project was participated by approximately 47,678 public schools.
In accordance with the DepEd Memorandum No. 69, series of 2023, Vice President of the Philippines and Secretary of Education Sara Z. Duterte noted that the initiative aims to promote environmental preservation and instill environmental responsibility among Filipino children.
Furthermore, DepEd shared that the tree planting activity is a gift from the Department to ensure a clean and green environment for Filipino children and future generations.
Before the conduct of the program, DepEd, Office of the Vice President and Department of Environment and Natural Resources signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the program titled Pagbabago: A Million Trees Campaign.
