From DepEd Communications Division PASIG CITY, 9 April 2025— In line with the administration’s commitment to education reform under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Education (DepEd) has launched an online public consultation on the Strengthened Senior High School (SHS) Curriculum, inviting stakeholders to provide feedback from April 4 to 11, 2025. DepEd is encouraging teachers, learners, parents, industry representatives, and the general public to participate in the consultation, especially in reviewing and providing constructive feedback on the draft Curriculum Guides (GCs), which aims to refine the SHS program to better align with learners needs, labor market demands, and national development goals. The initiative follows earlier stakeholder engagements from January to February 2025, where over 2,000 participants across 14 regions shared insights on curriculum improvements. The feedback from the online consultations will be reviewed and integrated into the final SHS curriculum framework. As part of strengthened SHS curriculum’s key features, DepEd has reduced the number of core subjects from 15 per semester to five for the entire Grade 11 year, which include Effective Communication, Life Skills, General Mathematics, General Science, and Pag-aaral ng Kasaysayan at Lipunang Pilipino. The new core SHS subjects are designed to deepen learners’ foundational competencies in communication, scientific and mathematical thinking, and personal development to better prepare them for lifelong learning and active civic participation. Time allotments for the subjects have also been revised to give students more opportunities to master essential competencies. The SHS program will also shift to only two tracks: Academic and TechPro. Electives related to Arts and Sports will remain but will now fall under the Academic track. Moreover, elective subjects have been updated and organized into clusters to help schools manage teachers and learning resources more efficiently. Students will now have the option to choose electives across multiple clusters, regardless of strand. DepEd is also introducing a “doorway option,” which allows students to select subjects based on their preferred exit pathways. This gives learners greater flexibility to customize their academic experience based on their goals.
