Public Safety Savings and Loan Association, Inc. (PSSLAI) has pledged to the Department of Region IV-A CALABARZON to donate buildings amounting to ₱6.3 million to schools that were damaged due to the January 12, 2020 Mt. Taal eruption.

According to the Education Support Services Division, the chosen schools were Bugaan Integrated School which is located in the District of Laurel and Ambulong Elementary School which is located in the District of Tanauan. Both schools are located within the 10km radius danger zone and were heavily affected by the ash fall.

Based on the DepEd Damage Assessment Report on Schools, Bugaan will be needing around P2.1 million to repair the damaged classrooms while Ambulong will be needing around P4.2 million. The total cost of repair is the same amount that PSSLAI will be providing which will be used in the construction of classrooms in the said schools.

A Memorandum of Understanding between PSSLAI represented by PDIR Lucas M. Managuelod (Ret), PSSLAI Chairman and CEO, and DepEd CALABARZON, represented by Regional Director Wilfredo E. Cabral was already signed on June 11 to signify the newly created partnership between the two sectors.

With this development, it is evident that the spirit of bayanihan is still alive even after months since the Mt. Taal eruption occurred. DepEd CALABARZON is grateful to PSSLAI and all the stakeholders who continue to provide assistance and support to ensure the continuous delivery of quality basic education, even if there are challenges that may occur.
