DepEd launches #BangonKabayan to address  Taal eruption concerns

Officials of the Department of Education Central Office and DepEd CALABARZON gathered together to tackle matters concerning Taal Volcano eruption-affected learners, schools, and teachers at Batangas Country Club on January 17.

Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones assured that DepEd is doing everything to make sure that the needs of the learners and teachers are addressed. These include early release of salary for teachers in the affected divisions and alternative delivery mode materials and temporary transfer of displaced learners.

DepEd also stressed that the use of schools as evacuation centers should be the last resort of the local government. Republic Act No. 10821 or the Children’s Emergency Relief and Protection Act states that schools will only be used if there is no available space or structure, and if used, it can only be for a maximum of 15 days.

Meanwhile, the province of Batangas has welcomed a steady stream of donations from all over the country. The Department has also extended its help to those affected by the Taal eruption as Briones and other Execom officials distributed donations to the evacuees staying at Bauan Technical High School, one of the schools turned into evacuation centers.
