Aiming to equip teachers with basic robotics skills and enable them to partake in more meaningful and creative pursuits, the Local Government of Silang conducted a robotics training for selected secondary teachers in Munting Ilog National High School (MINHS), February 7-8.
Teachers from MINHS-Integrated Senior School (MINHS-SHS), General Vito L. Belarmino National High School Integrated Senior School (GVBNHS), Lumil National High School Integrated Senior School (LNHS), Kaong National High School (KNHS), Emilia Ambalada Poblete National High School (EAPNHS), Malabag National High School (MNHS), Ulat National High School (UNHS), and Bulihan National High School (BNHS) underwent the two-day training which was supported by their principals together with Science teachers of MINHS, headed by Thelma P. Samson, Head Teacher III.
Participants collaborated in performing hands-on activities such as basic programming in robotics and assembling the parts of an ATXZ robot.
Bryan O. Padasas and Benjamin D. Truya Jr. from Data Sciences and Technology were the resource speakers of the event.
According to Padasas, robotics and computers became increasingly prevalent in students’ lives, adding that understanding programming and programming concepts is essential for students’ success.
“Introducing robotics to schools means making STEM skills and knowledge hands-on and fun, to prepare students for the future in a way that feels more like creativity and less like homework,” Padasas added.
The participants were very grateful for having this kind of training since it would not only benefit teachers but also the students. The teachers were also hoping that there would be another training about robotics soon. (Edith B. Velasco, School Paper Adviser, Munting Ilog NHS, Cavite Province)
