Padre Burgos District conducts Research Festival Plenum 1.0

One of the Padre Burgos District’s endeavors is to seek solutions for today’s problem in education, not in the mere teaching-learning process, but also in the teachers’ professional growth, community linkages, leadership, etc. Thus, the district conducted a two-day research festival plenum 1.0 with the theme, “Embracing Project of LIGHTS: Empowering Teachers in Action Research towards Quality Education” which aimed to enhance the teachers’ knowledge in writing action researches.

On the first day, Marciano R. Catapang, President of Padre Burgos District Research Committee (PBDRC), explained the significance of action research in manifesting quality education and in addressing our learners’ needs. Tarcela Q. Eroles, principal of Padre Burgos Central School, greeted the participants, saying that it was great privilege to be chosen to host the very first research festival in the district.

Meanwhile Elenar B. Opena, PSDS of Padre Burgos and PBDRC Consultant, commended the efforts of the people behind making this event possible. He then emphasized that action research could be developed based upon our day-to-day routine by just documenting the problems being encountered and the interventions used in solving these problems.

Byron Aloysius V. Cuerdo, TCDR Chairperson and Students’ Performance Early Warning System (SPEWS) author served as keynote speaker where he shared his expertise in research writing as he defined an action research, gave its importance, and enumerated some topics that could be useful in making an action research.

On the other hand, Oscar R. Duma Jr., representing Juanito A. Merle, Senior Education Program Specialist for Planning and Research, gave words of encouragement to the teachers to work on their action researches.

The event also recognized the best oral and poster presentations. For the poster presentation. Maricar T. Mojares together with Czariza Mariel T. Mojares won 1st place, Grace Ann Q. Vasquez and Leonora C. Pabalay won 2nd place, and Mercedita S. Rabano of Polo Integrated School won 3rd place.

For the oral presentation, Joan B. Garbo of Kinagunan ES won 1st place, Lina Gayeta Lasquety NHS won 2nd place, and Princess Joy Mengua of Danlagan NHS won 3rd place. Three best papers were selected where Garbo also got 1st place.

Tarcela Q. Eroles, on District Supervisor’s behalf, challenged the future researchers to apply what they have learned to initiate in conducting an action research.

All of the presenters were given certificates during the awarding ceremony. (Maela Margaritte M. Millar, Teacher I, Hinguiwin Elementary School, SDO Quezon Province)
