250 Cavite division, school personnel trained on basic food safety practices

Schools Division of Cavite Province, in cooperation with the Food Safety Hygiene Academy of the Philippines (FoodSHAP), trained 250 division and school-based health personnel and canteen managers  on basic food safety practices, January 14 to 18.

The  training capacitated the participants in handling food preparations properly to prevent food-borne diseases and ensure the provision of safe, quality and nutritious food for the learners and school personnel.

FoodSHAP’s Food Safety Compliance Officers (FSCO) Lesly Gatpayat and Elsie Gatpayat served as resource speakers for the first and second batches of the training while France Louie Jutiz facilitated the training for the third batch.  Glenn Hyde Dela Cruz and Kristi Anne Aure were the speakers for the fourth and fifth batches of training, respectively.

Basic concepts on food safety including food hazards, illness from food and high  risk foods,  time and temperature control, personal hygiene practices, premises and equipment, cleaning and sanitizing, pest control management, steps on staying safe in the kitchen and flow of food were the topics discussed during the training.

Lecture, interactive games, group discussion and demonstration methods were the mode of teaching used by the speakers in the delivery of topics and facilitation of learning. Active participation was attained as the participants were given hands-on experiences on food safety practices.

Learning outcomes were also evaluated through the administration of written and practical exam. The exam passers received a certificate and  license as food safety officer from FoodSHAP.(Maria Belen C. Mojica, Reagan Royce Luclucan, Nurse II, DepEd Cavite Province)
