For the purpose of strengthening School-Based Management, Mabel Abrencillo, EPS of the Regional Office’s Field and Technical Assistance visited the City Schools Division of Tayabas City last August 14.

Abrencillo met the members of the DEXECOM composed of ASDS Edwin Paul Navarro, SGOD Chief Dr. Edwin Rodriguez, CID Chief Imelda Raymundo, Accountant III Agnes Luzadas, Budget Officer III Benjie Mijares, and Planning Officer III Marife Lagar. SBM Coordinator Luzviminda E. Saludares-EPs II was also present in the meeting.

Before Abrencillo presented the Progress Monitoring and Evaluation Tool for SBM, she gave a glimpse of the processes involved in applying for ISO (International Organization for Standardization) Certification, the actual standard to which an organization’s quality management system can be certified.

“You have to understand that in submitting an institution in the certification, it is not the accreditors who set the standards. It is the customer who identifies ways to improve existing system,” she explained. Abrencillo also added that the certification is a bottom-up approach where the clientele does the need-assessment, fills in gaps, and develops new processes and procedures.

The SBM coordinator then proceeded to highligh the areas of concern that need to be focused on by the SDO, the chiefs of CID and SGOD, SBM Coordinator, School Heads. Among the things to be monitored are the SBM level of implementation, Supervisory Plans, SIP, AIP, WFP, SRC, Observations of Classes, Liquidation and Financial Report, Anti-bullying and Grievance Mechanism, Stakeholders’ Participation, Research, School Safety, School Titling, and Physical Facilities.

Furthermore, Abrencillo and Saludares had the one-on-one technical assistance provision. The RO EPS gave the SBM Coordinator practical tips on how she may present her observations, findings, and recommendations in an easy-to-read template. Saludares clarified issues on the School-to-School Partnership. Saludares also showed her the list of leader and partner schools.

In addition, Abrencillo graced the Piging ng Pasasalamat (Gawad Katig)  and gave an inspirational message to all gathered. She encouraged and congratulated the stakeholders to carry on being agents of progress in the Division and in the Region, ending her message by singing a line from a song, “And you are the wind beneath our wings”.
