DepEd Cavite Province conducted an orientation symposium on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) to more than 100 Division and school-based personnel at the Division’s Bulwagang Tanglaw, February 13.

Attended by the Division’s top management officials, chiefs, unit and section heads, Division medical and dental personnel, school-based nurses, and district disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) coordinators, the orientation was coordinated to and facilitated by the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Dr. Nelson Soriano, provincial epidemiologist and surveillance officer, presented situational reports on COVID-19, confirming that there are four persons under investigation (PUI) in CALABARZON as of February 4.  He also discussed the Department of Health (DOH) protocol on screening, investigating, monitoring, and confirming COVID-19 cases.

Renz Figueroa, health education program officer, debunked myths and misinformation associated with COVID-19. Further, he discussed the symptoms and mode of transmission of COVID-19 and the preventive measures that must be undertaken to halt the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, Schools Division Superintendent Rommel Bautista emphasized the importance of providing correct and accurate information about health issues in order to prevent the spread of fake news which causes panic to the public.

To date, the Division medical team has been cascading the orientation on COVID-19 and equipping school heads, clinic teachers, and school DRRM coordinators of all 18 districts on relevant protocols and directives. Close monitoring and surveillance for cases of respiratory symptoms and infectious diseases among learners and school-based personnel is also on-going. (Ronalyn Salazar, Nurse II and Rey Ann M.
