To promote brotherhood, camaraderie, and equality among male teachers in Lopez East District, Men Advocating GAD Consciousness for Human Equity Through Transformative Education or MACHETE organization conducted its 1st Sports Fest competition.

Three teams from different zones of elementary and secondary schools participated in the event held at Magsaysay basketball court on November 4. They competed in different exciting games such as basketball, volleyball, and badminton.

It started with a short program where Wilmor E. Impreso, PII and MACHETE adviser, inspired every participant to promote healthy lifestyle by engaging in sports. MACHETE President Wendell Leo T. Olea reiterated sportsmanship and familiarization between members of the organization to strengthen the bond of this all male solidarity movement called MACHETE.

The tip-off in basketball game eased the excitement and eagerness of the participants as Team Elementary and Team Magallanes battled during the opening game, where the latter emerged victorious. However, Team Veronica pulled a crucial win in a tight match over Team Magallanes and was eventually crowned as champions in basketball.

In volleyball, Team Magallanes was able to bounce back in a Championship match against their archrival Team Veronica. Moreover, badminton event belonged to the Elementary team as they dominated both in singles and doubles category.

One of the highlights of the event was the Basketball shoot around challenge for female teachers where Team Elementary surprisingly shot from all angles and dropped 37 pts. to outscore all opponents and bagged the championship trophy. According to them, “Kung kaya niyo magbasketball, kaya din namin,” which truly exhibited the gender equality spirit between men and women employees.(Wendell Leo T.
