DepEd Cavite strengthens commitment to SBM practices

Contributing to the country’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Department of Education continuously revisits its School-Based Management (SBM) Framework to adapt with the emerging needs, social context, and prevailing realities.

In support of this and in preparation for District Leadership, the Schools Division Office of Cavite Province organized a one-day meeting involving all Public Schools District Supervisors (PSDSs), January 21.

Diana P. Topacio, OIC-Chief of School Governance and Operations Division (SGOD), opened the discussion on SBM updates and oriented the PSDSs on the upcoming regional and division SBM activities.  She gave emphasis on the appropriate preparation for SBM/SSP/Project 555 contests in line with the specified guidelines.

Allain B. Alvarez, Division SBM Coordinator, further discussed the School Governing Council (SGC) specifically the crucial role of School Heads in strengthening the SGC as part of SBM.  He also presented the schedule of School Management Monitoring and Evaluation (SMM&E) Section activities for Calendar Year (CY) 2019.

Gregoria S. Atas, Public Schools District Supervisor, reminded the team of the relevance of Continuous Improvement (CI) Project in school governance.  She presented a timeline as a guide for School Heads in developing and sustaining their CI Projects.

An open forum was set to answer several queries for SBM/SSP/Project 555/CI Project.

The presented topics were uploaded in the PSDSs’ Facebook group, including the video presentation of SSP (District of Trece Martires City, Regional Winner for Schools Clique: A Tour De Force District Category) and Project 555 (Amaya Elementary School, Regional Finalist for SBM Project 555 School Level), for the participants’ future reference.

SBM is one of the flagship programs of DepEd that has been institutionalized to focus on the key educational principles which was hybridized later on to encompass only four principles – school leadership, curriculum implementation, continuous improvement, and management of resources as stipulated under DepEd Order No. 83, s. 12 or the Implementing Guidelines on the Revised School-Based Management (SBM) Framework, Assessment Process and Tool (APAT).

Since 2012, SBM level is determined by how each school initiated and effected change in the school setup. But so much are to be done and great tasks need to be accomplished to fully achieve the goals and objectives of the SBM Framework.  (Allain B. Alvarez, SEPS-M&E, SDO Cavite Province)
