DepEd CALABARZON initiates harmonizing learning contents and resources in Science

To augment the implementation of the K to 12 Program, DepEd CALABARZON’s Curriculum and Learning Management Division initiated the “Regional Training of Trainers on Harmonizing Learning Contents and Resources in Science for Grades 3 to 10”  held at Selah Pods Hotel, Pasay City on November 26-28.

The training aimed to harmonize the K to 12 science contents with existing learning resources in meeting the desired skills/competencies for each grade level, design a content and learning resource matrix per quarter in each grade level or key stage, use instructional technology in the evolution, management and integration of instruction of the available tools, and prepare an action plan on areas/grade level where resources are limited or not available.

Job S. Zape Jr., OIC-CLMD enunciated that harmonizing learning contents and resources is a way of dissecting and eventually, enhancing the curriculum through identifying the proper tools and materials for teaching anchored to the different learning competencies. He also pointed out that this activity will also be done in the different subject areas in future trainings.

Participants from the 21 divisions of the region were asked to fill in the different templates for the learning resources and contents in Science for different Key Stages during the first day of the training.

Blended learning, resources, reflection practices and authentic assessment were the topics highlighted by  Maricar S. Prudente, professor of De La Salle University. She served as the trainer of integrating various instructional technology tools.

“Prudente stressed that the activity is not just harmonizing the contents with resources but rather harmonizing all elements like the type of the generation of learners we are teaching and about to teach, the kind of teachers who will be using these materials and the kind of assessment suited to these learners,” explained Zape.

Aside from the completed learning resource matrix, the output required a lesson exemplar with applications of the topics discussed. (Michael M. Safred, School Head, Rosario Quesada Memorial National High School, Tayabas City)
