In line with Republic Act 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012, DepEd Region IV-A CALABARZON, through its Legal Unit and selected representatives of different divisions and schools, has been aiming to create policies and implement measures that will safeguard the personal data of its clients, particularly its employees and learners.
After a series of meetings, the technical working group (TWG) involved in the crafting of the region’s Data Privacy Manual presented the draft for validation at Great Eastern Hotel, Quezon City, December 3 to 5.
Atty. Jocelyn Buclig, Attorney IV of DepEd CALABARZON, remarked that the manual will be the first DepEd regional manual, hence even the Central Office is monitoring the progress.
Meanwhile, gracing the event were Schools Division Superintendents, Assistant Schools Division Superintendents, regional office representatives, division management representatives, legal officers, records officers, and information technology officers.
The participants reviewed the draft and gave their suggestions on how to improve and strengthen the policies written in the manual. Aspects such as data sharing of DepEd offices with third parties and securing data in technical devices were heavily discussed.
The group also discussed future challenges such as funds in implementing security measures.
The TWG gathered all the recommendations and shall incorporate this in the draft. Once done, this will undergo another review by the TWG before submitting to the regional director for approval and cascading it down to the division offices and schools. (Ma. Joan Paula D. Dino, PAU, DepEd CALABARZON)
