Amaya ES welcomes Korean exchange teachers

Amaya Elementary School, headed by Felino B. Sidocon Jr., welcomed the two Korean exchange teachers under the 2018 Korea-Philippines Teacher Exchange Program (KPTEP) on August 20.

Jo Ahra, 32, and Lee Bokheum, 29, are the teachers participating in KPTEP which aims to provide them with opportunities to learn from the country’s educational system, and teach and involve themselves as members of the local host school and the local community. The program will last until November 28.

Tanza District Supervisors Ma. Jovy P. Legaspi and Edelisa M. Catacutan, Asst. Schools Division Superintendent Diana P. Topacio, and Agnes G. Rolle, Chief, Regional Field and Technical Assistance Division Chief, were among the DepEd officials who were present during the welcome ceremony.

“I do hope that this particular cultural exchange for global competitiveness will have both countries, the Philippines and Korea, not only form a better partnership but also experience a learning culture that will have them understand more the Filipino people and the Philippines. And through our Korean Teachers, we will be able to understand the Korean people and also their culture,” Rolle said.

The FTAD Chief also hoped that the Korean teachers’ stay would be meaningful, fruitful, and they would be able to learn from the region and vice versa.

Rolle told them to enjoy their stay in Amaya ES and embrace the warm welcome and the hospitality of the Filipino people.

Prior to the official welcoming of Jo and Lee, the teachers attended a few days of orientation in the host school. They also started class observations with their mentor teachers. These were done to learn the country’s education system and prepare themselves in performing their duties as teachers in charge of regular classes.

Furthermore, their mentors Rowena L. Araracap and Aurea L. Perea exposed them to local religious, cultural, and traditional experience and activities including a visit to a friend’s house during the Tanza town’s “fiesta”, a visit to the perya, and sedera so they could easily adapt to their new environment and learn from Filipino culture as well.
