Cavite State U Professor: ‘Safe food depends on you’

Cavite State University’ Professor Ilano and Professor Pia Rhoda Lucero introduced food safety to 564 canteen managers, school-based feeding program (SBFP) coordinators, and clinic teachers by underscoring the accountability of food handlers in keeping DepEd Cavite’s learners safe from food borne diseases in schools, February 1-2.

“Safe food depends on you,” Prof. Ilano said as he enlightened the participants about the need for personal hygiene and food safety awareness.

They also discussed time and temperature control, high-risk food, cleaning and sanitizing, personal hygiene, and premises and equipment as aspects conducive to proper food handling.

The two-day food safety training also served as a refresher for the participants as Provincial Health Office’s Engr. Nilda Roguel and Engr. Arnulfo Alcain discussed safety measures and demonstrated skills in maintaining a healthy environment from the delivery up to serving the food.

As a result, participants produced actions plans relative to their food safety practices in canteen management and implementation of SBFP for school year 2018-2019.
