Tanauan City celebrates National Teachers’ Day

Every day, teachers do their best to deal with the often-conflicting social-emotional needs of students, to meet the expectations of parents and administrators, and to impart the academic curriculum their students need to learn. They always do a tremendous job under challenging circumstances with very limited resources while not receiving enough appreciation. This year’s Teachers’ Day theme – “Gurong Pilipino, Ka-akbay sa Progreso” – recognized the role of teachers in honing the full potential of students toward nation building.

Teaching and non-teaching personnel of the Division of Tanauan City gathered at La Consolacion College Gymnasium, Tanauan City to celebrate National Teachers’ Day last October 6.

The event was spearheaded by Hon. Ma. Theresa Collantes, Congresswoman of the 3rd District of Batangas, local government officials, headed by Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili and Schools Division Superintendent Edna Faura-Agustin.

The culmination started with an opening mass, followed by the program proper hosted by Xander Castillo, SEPS and Dindo Maloles, teacher from Natatas National High School. A welcome message was rendered by SR. Emilia S. Lacuarta, OSA, President of La Consolacion College.

SDS Edna Faura-Agustin gave her inspirational message. She honoured the SPED teachers by acknowledging their hard work in nurturing and guiding their students. Teachers were all presented on stage as they receive token of appreciation. She said that aside from showing gratitude to all the teachers for the sacrifices and efforts that they have made to educate the youth, it was also important for DepEd to make them feel happy and appreciated.

There were also greetings coming from Congresswoman Collantes, Mayor Halili represented by Atty. Jhun-jhun Trinidad, City Administrator, and City Vice-Mayor Atty. Jhoanna Corona.

Among the highlights of the event were: Presentation of the Participants, Loyalty Awardees, Most Loved by Partner, Battle of the Bands, Zumba moment, games and raffles sponsored by partners in education and other agencies. There were also booths for some items and souvenirs to be purchased. Teachers were serenaded by Jerick Gonzales, an actor of GMA network. And finally, a closing remark was given by Ms. Shirley Caniete-Siman, OIC Assistant Schools Division Superintendent. (Elsie R. Reye, Division Librarian, SDO-Tanauan City)
