Tayabas City Division showcases English competency in competitions

Students and teachers from both public and private schools of Tayabas City Division gathered during the 2017 Vocabulary Olympics, Speech Fest and English Caucus at Tayabas West Central School I on Sept.22.

Pursuant to the Division Memo No. 218, s. 2017, EPS for English Richelle F. Quintero organized this year’s English festival dubbed English Power in Competition (EPIC).

The contests began with a battle of the vocabulary power in the form of a Quiz Bee which included word use and spelling. This was joined by the students from grades 3, 6, and 7 in respective levels. Ma. Clouie Javin of Dap-Dap Integrated School claimed the gold for the secondary level, leading the 2nd and 3rd placers both from Luis Palad Integrated  High School. Meanwhile, South Palale Elementary School and Potol Elementary School won the first and second place for the Grade 3 and 6 categories respectively. They are Yeisha Nicole Baasis and Princess Jhamila Paderes.

Meanwhile, teachers were convened for the English Teachers’ Caucus. Ramonito O. Elumbaring, the guest speaker from Quezon National High School (QNHS), emphasized the use, impact and importance as well of using the Screen-O -Matic as one of the effective pedagogical tools for the 21st century education.

The second part of the contest, awarded the best impromptu speaker to Jake Ravina, grade 11 student  of Luis Palad Integrated High School. Meanwhile, the Chamber theater and Dramatic Choric Speaking Competition brought excitement to the mob. These respective two major contests for the elementary (grades 4-6) and secondary (grade 10) were the highlights of the day-long activity. The board of judges finally revealed the result, Tayabas East Central School I and Luis Palad Integrated High School were proclaimed victors and they are expected to represent the division to the upcoming Regional Festival of Talents on Nov. 16 in Batangas Province.
