Javalera ES wins regional search for sustainable, eco-friendly schools

Gen. Trias City – There is a great reason to rejoice for Javalera Elementary School academic family and school stakeholders after emerging as the regional champion in the 2017 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools (elementary level).

Making its way to the national level competition, Gen. Trias City’s Javalera ES is among the 17 regional elementary schools, 17 secondary schools, and 14 colleges who will compete for the Php 50,000.00 cash prize and plaque of recognition. These shall be awarded during an exhibition-cum-awarding in November in celebration of the National Environmental Awareness Month.

The national search is in response to Republic Act No. 9512 also known as the National Environment Awareness and Education Act of 2008, and the ASEAN Environmental Education Plan for Sustainable Development for 2014-2018.

The 2017 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools is a joint undertaking of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Environmental Management Bureau, Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Smart Communications, Inc., Nestle Philippines, Inc., One Meralco Foundation, Inc., Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), and other government and private sectors.

Demetrio Recto Jr., principal of Javalera ES, said that the school was able to win because of the more than 100% support and participation of the teachers, students, and their parents, as well as the generous school stakeholders and partners.

Joining Javalera ES in the said competition are Imus National High School (Secondary Level-City of Imus) and Adventist University of the Philippines (College Level – Silang) which also bested the rest of schools in CALABARZON.
