SDO Tayabas strengthens National Drug Education Program

In support of the government’s thrusts against the proliferation use of illegal drugs in the country, SDO Tayabas City conducted a 2-day orientation and training on drug testing program at Tayabas East Central School on June 15 and 19.

Aligned with the National Drug Education Program (NDEP) objective which is to provide holistic approach to the problem of drug abuses, the said activity offered the participants planned testing of secondary students, elementary and secondary school teachers, and personnel.

Grace Cabili, head Teacher of Rosario Quesada High School, tackled the legal basis of Drug Testing. She clearly explained the Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act following the stipulated legal procedures.

Analyn Endencia, teacher from West Palale National High School, discussed the Medical Aspects of Drugs, the physiology and pharmacology for prevention specialists, the drug classes and the effects of drugs in the human body.

Pamela Pomosa of Luis Palad National High School presented the topic on process workflow in RTD for workplace and students. She also facilitated the discussion on specimen collection and specimen validity testing. Moreover, Pomosa tackled the Evidence-Based Prevention Intervention and Policies: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime International Standards on Drug Use Prevention. She further presented the points of intervention model and how international standards for drug use prevention were developed.

Meanwhile, RDT Core Team assisted the Random Testing Simulation on the second day of the training. Benedicta Ferrer, Guidance Counselor of LPNHS, explained the intervention and counselling for the identified drug users.

As advocate of the NDEP, SDO Tayabas City strengthened and expanded its collaboration with other government agencies to effectively work with school system as the core to unify all sectoral endeavors against illegal drugs prevalent in our society.
