A Parent and Child Tandem Cooking Contest took place at Senator Claro M. Recto Integrated School to highlight this year’s Nutrition Month Celebration last July 27.
Participants from various schools were asked to prepare pinakbet, a popular Filipino dish made from nutritious vegetables like squash, string beans, okra and eggplant.
“This competition is a great opportunity not only to improve the bonding of the parent and the child, but also to develop among family the importance of consuming nutritious dishes like pinakbet for a better nutritional status of our children,” Dr. Ludy N. Pasagui, the Schools Division Superintendent emphasized during the opening ceremony.
A parent and child team from Pangao Integrated School emerged victorious with their pinakbet pizza recipe. While a team from Duhatan Elementary School with their pinakbet with sea foods and Rafael M. Lojo Elementary School took second and third place, respectively.
Alberto Laroza, Education Program Supervisor in TLE expressed his appreciation with the participating schools and contestants for their great creativity in food preparation and presentation while promoting the consumption of healthy foods. (Vanessa A. Briones, Teacher III, Pangao Integrated School)
