Division of Tayabas City took center stage at SHDP Colloquium held in the Philippine International Convention Center, Manila last July 11.

Headed by their Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Catherine Talavera, the said division turned in a sterling performance as Myrna B. Tabernilla, School Head of Malao-a Calantas Elementary School, bagged one of the Top Five Best Project Implementations.  She received P5,000 in cash as prize.

The big event gathered all School Heads who are completers of the School Heads Development Program (SHDP) Foundation Course and was graced by DepEd top officials led by Regional Director Diosdado M. San Antonio.  It also served as an avenue to showcase the significant milestones achieved by the School Heads after six months of project implementation.

Handpicked out of 1,650 projects in CALABARZON, Tabernilla’s Project Pag-asa (Paghikayat:Aktibong Gawin, Adhikain: Siguradong Aanihin) caught the eye of the evaluators.  Her study on absenteeism revealed that boredom is the primary cause of their pupils’ non-attendance at school. Learners find the lessons dull and the teachers’ methods uninspiring.  Employing strategies that made learning engaging and exciting increased the pupils’ attendance. (Leonora R.
