Over 1,600 School Heads attend School Heads’ Colloquium

Over 1600 School Heads from the 20 Schools Division of CALABARZON filled the Philippine International Convention Center for the School Heads’ Colloquium last July 11.

The participants are the completers of the Schools Heads Development Program: Foundation Course made possible through DepEd Memorandum No. 196, s. 2016.

Gracing the completion ceremony was Revsee A. Escobedo, Assistant Secretary for Procurement Service and Project Management Service, who attended the event as keynote speaker. The Asec. reiterated the different DepEd school programs being implemented by the government.

“[DepEd] will not, in anyway, become indecisive. I assure you that we will continue to figure out our way to the better and make education more accessible and inclusive. We will never stop to concretize more avenues to make all [DepEd’s] aspirations materialize,” Escobedo said.

Regional Director Diosdado M. San Antonio also commended the school heads for a job well done and shared Michael Fullon’ Secret Ways of Change, emphasizing that leaders should help their employees learn continuously.

“Kung nagmamahal po tayo at nagmamalasakit sa ating mga kasamahan sa trabaho, let’s make sure that it is translated into enabling them to learn continously,” San Antonio added.

John Arnold S. Siena, National Educators Academy of the Philippines Director was also present to congratulate the school heads for completing the program and the officials who made the program possible.

“It is my fervent hope that you continue to hold the torch of excellent leadership and bring light to every corner of your community and to the individual lives that are put under your care,” Siena expressed.

He added how the school heads are critical in the delivery of basic education since they ensure that quality instruction is not just provided in one classroom but in the entire school.

“Quality instruction does not happen because there is one excellent teacher. Quality instruction happens because all the teachers deliver quality education,” the NEAP Director explained.

Best Program Implementers

With the theme “School Heads in CALABARZON: Leading the Way towards Continuous Improvement”, the ceremony was also an avenue for school heads to showcase their school’s significant milestone achieved after 4 months of the implementation of the School Head’s Project Application Implementation Plan.

Hundreds of tarpaulin presentations were scattered around the venue. Evaluators from the Schools Division Offices and Regional Office officials browsed through the presentations to determine the best programs among the rest.
SDO officials picked from their respective divisions and from them, the Regional Officials picked the five best program implementers from all the participants.

The awardees included David A. Lelis III of Dasmariñas City, Antonio D. Revillame of Quezon Province, Barnon Abellera of Laguna, Rowerna B. Cambel of Calamba City, and Myrna Tabernilla of Tayabas City. Besides their certificates of recognition, they also received a cash prize worth P5,000.

The SHDP: Foundation Course was a series of workshops and trainings aimed to enhance school heads’ skills as academic and community leaders conducted in the different regions in the Philippines through the National Educators Academy of the Philippines and DepEd Regional Human Resource Development Divisions. The program first launched on September 2016 and ended last May 2017.  (Ma. Joan Paula D. Dino, PAU)
