Division of Tanauan City initiates Leadership Training for SSG/SPG Officers: Exploring Leader Identity and Development

To train the student leaders to become better members of society in accordance with the ideals and principles of participatory democracy and good citizenship, Division Leadership Training for Supreme Student Government Officers was held last May 4-6, 2017 at Malaking Pulo National High School.

Initiated by Mr. Xander B. Castillo, JEPS – Social Mobilization and Networking, the activity was attended by all SSG officers and advisers from different secondary schools, along with several DepEd Tanauan City officials headed by OIC-Schools Division Superintendent, Edna Faura Agustin, PSDSs Mrs. Marita N. Castillo, Dr. Nora Perez, Mrs. Zenaida Rivera and Mrs. Editha Rodriguez.

As part of the training, Castillo did the overview and verification of expectations. SEPS – Planning and Research Liza M. Faustino discussed Leading by Example. Principal I-TCNHS Gregorio T. Mueco explained Learning the Difference between Leadership and Management. Teacher III at Natatas NHS Dindo O. Maloles educated the young leaders about Events Management.

Other speakers included Dr. Buenalyn M. Manuel, SEPS – M&E who discussed the Learning about Commitment and how to Move Things Forward. Edgar Marshall Brinas, JEPS – T&D, talked about Polishing Interpersonal skills and Communication Skills. Nerissa A. Austria, EPS – Araling Panlipunan, scrutinized the core values of DepEd Maka-Diyos, Makabansa, Makatao, Makakalikasan that will connect to their one-year project plan.

Serving as one of the Keynote Speakers from the DepEd Central Office was Jennifer Ann J. Pascua, PDO II – Youth Formation Coordinator who talked about Creating your Leadership Legacy. While Warren Quisada, PDO II – Youth Formation Coordinator discussed about SSG/SPG By-Laws and Millenial Leaders by Nature.

Tanauan City Mayor Antonio C. Halili, Vice Mayor Atty. Jhoanna Corona, and City Councilor Atty. Gileen Canobas-Manaig were also present and talked about Defining Qualities and Strengths of a Leader.

On the third day, team building activities were conducted.  Red Cross Batangas Chapter facilitated the First Aid Training and Bureau of Fire Protection for fire drills.

The participants were challenged to do their role as young leaders as well as organize and manage SSG programs, projects, activities and related intervention programs. (Anne Jeliene C. Capacia, PDO I, Tanauan City)
