SDO Tayabas upholds women’s rights

“Let us salute the successful women of Tayabas for they are some of the people who hold the key to progress in our city,” said Dr. Catherine P. Talavera, Schools Division Superintendent, as she praised the empowered women of Tayabas during the celebration of National Women’s Month with the theme “We make change work for women” at Tayabas East Central School III last March 20.

Extraordinary women were invited to give a heart-to-heart talk to Tayabense to share their experiences on women who rose above life’s challenges. They were DepEd Tayabas CID Chief Imelda Raymundo, PTA Federation Vice – President Imelda Pabulayan, PTA Federation President and Councilor Wenda De Torres, Councilor Precy Glorioso (former Board Member of the first district), Councilor Lovely Reynoso, daughter of the city mayor, and City Mayor Ernida Reynoso.

Chief Raymundo was a self-supporting student turned supervisor. Her harsh life as a child and the strong convictions of her father shaped her fearless and hardworking personality.

Meanwhile Architect Pabulayan is a lone child who was raised by a well-respected politician in her hometown in Batangas. While taking care of seven children, she still managed to become a successful business woman and a dependable partner of DepEd Tayabas City.

On the other hand, even as a young widow, Councilor De Torres mastered the skill of multitasking being a mother, politician, and a businesswoman. A remarkable person, she views life as short so one must seize the day.

A former teacher, Councilor Glorioso took courage from her husband when she became a politician of Quezon Province despite her humble beginnings. Now, she remains a politician in her hometown where she serves well for the good of the city.

Councilor Reynoso comes from an influential family in Tayabas and is proud to be raised by a strong woman, the mayor of Tayabas. Her mom inspired her and taught her many things like the value of independence, the meaning of unconditional love, love for oneself, patience and faith in God. Through her mother, she realized that one can be both strong and soft as a solo parent and that one must create his or her own happiness.

Lastly, Mayor Reynoso saluted all the women of Tayabas who in one way or another made a difference in others’ lives.

After the inspiring messages of the special guests, Dr. Talvera hosted a mini-talk show addressing three significant questions: How can one become a successful woman? What are the sacrifices you made to be successful? Is it true that “for every successful man, there’s a woman behind”?

A slogan contest was also adjudged by EPS Kinder/ SPED Mildred Galleno, EPS-Science Georgia Talabong, and EPS- Reading/ Journalism Richelle Quintero. The winners were declared to be Malao-a Elementary School who won first place, Potol ES for 2nd Place, and Senior High School Stand Alone who managed to get 3rd Place

Architect Pabulayan, Mayor Reynoso, Councilor Glorioso and Councilor De Torres sponsored numerous gifts as well. Lucky winners such as Marichel Rabuel, Girlie Oabel and Ruchi Eclavea received 500 cash prize each.

Fideliza Luces, Senior Education Program Specialist and GAD Focal Person, managed the over-all course of the said event. While Junior Education Program Specialist Aileen Averilla, hosted the event. (Richelle F. Quintero Education Program Supervisor, SDO Tayabas)
