DepEd CALABARZON joins call to “Make Change Work for Women”

Despite being busy with the on-going preparations for ISO Certification, the Department of Education Region IV-A CALABARZON celebrated International Women’s Day and National Women’s Month last March 13.

DepEd CALABARZON Regional Director Diosdado San Antonio thanked the Human Resource Development Division for making the event possible and commented how the region’s theme of the month which is self-empowerment is aligned with the on-going celebration.

“Empowerment is about knowing that [we] are capable of producing change and making sure that everything that happens in our workplace, in our families is because of us. Because of our noble intentions to create a better world, a better DepEd Office,” Diosdado explained.

Assistant Regional Director Gina Gacusan of the National Economic and Development Authority CALABARZON also came to celebrate the cause and inspire not just the women but all the regional officials and employees.

“Success happens becauseyou are inspired. Because of that inspiration, you become driven, productive, committed, creative,” Gacusan said.

In addition, HRDD through Education Program Supervisor Nadina Gaton prepared other activities. Taking the idiomatic expression, “put yourself in her shoes” literally, Education Program Supervisor Dominador Villafria led the regional officials and employees’ mini parade around the office grounds. Makeovers and facials sponsored by beauty brands Mary Kay and Atomy were also made available to the female employees. To cap the day’s celebration, employees were treated to a Zumba workout session from the region’s very own Education Program Specialist Jumar Sadsad.

RDC honors CALABARZON women

Five hard working personnel of DepEd CALABARZON were also recognized during the first ever Regional Women’s Month Celebration last March 15.

The Regional Office’s Jennifer E. Lopez (Education Program Supervisor), Calamba City’s Eugenia Gorgon (Schools Division Superintendent), Batangas Province’s Cristina Perez (Principal IV), Lucena City’s Maria Corazon A. Rubio (Head Teacher), and Batangas City’s Ma. Josefina Lagman (Accountant) were awarded as Outstanding Women of DepEd CALABARZON.

DepEd CALABARZON is set to host next year’s Regional Women’s Month celebration, inheriting the duties from National Economic and Development Authority.

The Regional Women’s Month Celebration was initiated by the Regional Development Council to highlight the region’s efforts to localize the Magna Carta of Women. (Ma. Joan Paula D. Dino, Regional Public Affairs Unit)
