Estanero empowers GADvocates
Engr. Sheena “Teacher Yna” M. Estanero, empowered 57 school Gender and Development (GAD) coordinators in the Seminar-Workshop on Gender Sensitivity in Teaching cum Gender Analysis Tools at Lucena City Teachers & Employees Conference Center, Feb 21.
The program of GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) of SDO Lucena City aimed to increase awareness on gender sensitivity in teaching, reduce barriers to personal and economic development created by sexism, and maximize the use of Gender Analysis Tools: Gender Mainstreaming Evaluation Framework (GMEF) and Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGHG).
Teacher Yna emphasized that the participants learn to see the positive in every situation and to love with awareness to gender sensitivity in order to treat each other equally. “What your sex at birth will not determine your potentials today. In teaching, teachers are not supposed to be ‘pagalingan’. Ang tunay na Maestro, marunong iangat ang lahat ng estudyante, babae o lalaki, bakla o tomboy, bata o matanda…”
In addition, gender sensitivity has been developed as a way to reduce barriers to personal and economic development created by sexism. It helps to generate respect for the individual regardless of sex. It is not about pitting women against men but gender sensitive benefits among members of both sexes.
Meanwhile, Dr. Karina R. Bautista, Division GAD Focal Person discussed the use of (GMEF) and (HGDG) which is a vital contribution to process the gender mainstreaming in schools and in making our agency gender-sensitive and violence free to proliferate the true concepts of GAD.
