The Schools Division Office of Biñan City joined the forum on Strengthening High School Competencies with Industry Work Immersion on January 31 with the hope of establishing partnership with Creotech Philippines Incorporated, an electronics manufacturing company in Laguna.
The team, led by Joel Valenzuela, Division Senior High School (SHS) coordinator, was composed of school heads, SHS coordinators, and other division personnel, listened to the presentation on how the company would be of help to the academe in providing hands-on experiences for Grades 11 and 12 students under the Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, Accountancy and Business Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, and General Academic strands.
In an opening statement, Perry A. Ferrer, president of EMS Group of Companies where Creotec Philipines, Inc. is a member, said that the program aims to narrow the gap between the industry and the academe in terms of practices and training.
“It is also our mission to take an active part in educating all Filipino learners… and we assure everyone that we will deliver our programs,” Ferrer said.
DepEd Sta. Rosa City Schools Division Superintendent Helen Ramos, in her keynote speech, emphasized the benefits of the program that the organizer is offering to address issues on the implementation of SHS such as the insufficiency of qualified teachers, scarcity of resources, and provision for work immersion.
“Our students nowadays are given the 3Cs such as Chances, Choices, and Changes for a better life in the 21st century,” Ramos explained.
Meanwhile, Julius Ferrer, School Head of Biñan City Senior High School-Timbao Campus, inquired on the possibility of receiving sponsorship for their financially-challenged yet competent learners to avail of the program.
Creotec Director Thess P. Bermudez answered that they will offer help especially to public schools in looking for benefactors who will shoulder students’ training expenses. She further explained that some non-government organizations and companies have expressed support and participation to their undertaking.
Other pertinent details on the planned partnership will be discussed by DepEd Biñan’s SHS team with the Social Mobilization and Networking and Creotec Philippines, Inc. (Jaypee E. Lopo. SEPS-HRD, Division of Biñan City)
