Gulayan sa Paaralan DepEd Santa Rosa City holds Benchmarking

To strengthen Oh my Gulay, Tanim sa Kinabukasan (OMG-TSK) Program, DepEd Division of Santa Rosa City in partnership with East West Seed Foundation had its benchmarking activity in Bulacan, Sept. 23.

East West Seed Foundation is an active partner of DepEd Santa Rosa City in the implementation of “Oh My Gulay Tanim Sa Kinabukasan” (OMG-TSK) Program. It is  a company which provides excellent quality, high-yielding, innovation driven seed products. They have cornered the vegetable seed market and have helped millions of farmers and vegetable traders. The company constantly strives to revolutionize the agriculture industry by investing on technologies that would improve the quality of their products.

As part of OMG-TSK program a benchmarking activity was organized by Santa Rosa City  through the leadership of Mrs. Helen Ramos, the Schools Division Superintendent. Included in the activity were the school heads and GPP coordinators of the six beneficiary schools implementing OMG-TSK,  Jason Sagaysay, SEPS-SocMob; Dr. Alvin D. Sta. Maria EPS II; Lea Imelda E. Ibayan, Project Development Officer II; Sammy Empleo, PSDS; Rowena Solomon, Cristie Merano, Imelda Lucos, and Joy Castillo; Dr. Edwina C. Nabo, Education Program Supervisor in TLE and Dr. Daizy Miranda, Asst. Schools Division Superintendent.

Mr. Ronan P. Lumibao, the Field Marketing  Supervisor of EWS and Ms. Tonee Oreiro led the opening program and orientation on East-West Seed Company after which a farm visit at EWS farmer Johnny Gatus’ vegetable farm was done. At Mang Johnny’s farm the whole team enjoyed picking ready to harvest vegetables such as patola, sili, ampalaya and papaya. Aside from Mang Johnny we were also entertained by other farmers , Kuya Regio and Kuya Allan.

There was also farm-ready tour , where one could purchase seedlings and had hands-on practice in preparing seedlings. There was a short demo and lecture on how seedlings are prepared and the new technology on grafted ampalaya and kamatis. Grafted ampalaya is a new technology where a strong stem from patola (rootstock) and quality scion of ampalaya is joined together to produce grafted ampalaya.

In the seed packaging area the group observed the journey of seeds from preparation to packaging. At the quality assurance area, seed testing, seed germination and the process of seed DNA was introduced to the group.

As concluding activity a Technical Working Group meeting was held between DepEd Santa Rosa City and EWS. Ms. Krystyn Rosario M. Oreiro, Program Officer of EWS discussed  the status of OMG-TSK and the upcoming culminating activity of the program.

The group realized the difficult experiences of the local farmers from seed preparation and selling of produce .
