Brigada Eskwela

Tanauan City National High School is the biggest secondary school in Tanauan City in terms of population and land area. Transforming the school campus into a safe and conducive learning environment for the students before opening the classes is a dilemma.

Before a new school year starts, the school is posed by the common sight of dirt and clutter, vandalized walls, unpolished floors, cobwebs, intended gardens, broken jalousies and tiles, among others. This poses challenges in the facilities of a school which hardly copes with the number of learners.  But, returning to the roots of the Filipino culture, which is extending helping hands to those in need or bayanihan, the school community became united and went out to ask help from the different sectors of the society.  This endeavor bore fruit in the forms of material, financial and volunteer support from those who believe in the ideals of Brigada Eskwela.  Teachers, parents, students, the LGU, religious organizations, industries, NGOs, private establishments and individuals joined hands and took part in the development and improvement of the school thus producing a conducive learning environment.  The voluntary convergence of people from different sectors in the city was indeed a sight to behold as they work together to make TCNHS a school ready for young Tanauenos.  This communal unity and cooperation for a cause has indeed brought TCNHS to greater heights when finally, after 5 years of joining, it has claimed the top spot and was declared as 2015 Best Brigada Eskwela Implementer under the Exceptional School Category.

TCNHS efforts in Brigada Eskwela also proved that indeed, no man is an island.  And everything the school has achieved was made possible because of the spirit of bayanihan.  The school may not have literally moved a “bahay kubo” from one place to another but with the help of everyone in the school community, it has moved lives of students from something good to something better.
